Unlocking Happiness: A Review of the 10-Day Happiness Program

10 Days of Happiness is a free online program to boost your wellbeing, through daily actions for happier living.

I mentioned 10 Days of Happiness in Could you be happier? and I successfully completed it!

I started the programme at the beginning of the week, hoping to do it over ten consecutive days. Big fail. However, it is a low-pressure programme, and there are no penalties if you skip a day. There were some days where I combined separate days in order to prevent a scenario where it took me a month to do it!

It’s very simple to get started. You sign up via email, and they deliver the programme to your inbox.

Each day consists of a short video with a happiness coach who guides you through some daily actions you can take to ‘feel happier’ and is followed by a writing prompt. This is usually a question that you can either answer directly in your browser or write offline. I chose to write offline so I could keep a record of my answers in my journal.

That’s it!

Did it make me happier?

In a sense, yes, it did. I ended up having a personal issue the day after I started, and I found the questions helpful in thinking about both my daily life and my goals and morals in a broader sense. Amid the stress, it was nice to watch a little video of positivity and take some time for myself.

My favourite day was Day 5, and I will share the question and answer below.

5. What would you say to a friend being hard on themselves? (And now say it to yourself.)

This question has come at the right time. I would say: stop, take a minute, and assess the situation. What good comes from berating yourself? Nothing. Do not focus on negatives that you cannot change. Redirect your focus to things you can control. Talk to yourself with kindness and positivity.

This is a question I ask myself ALL the time. And I think the last line is key. It’s easy to talk down on ourselves, but the way I see it, the world is full of people ready to do that for us. So, why not talk to ourselves the way we’d talk to our friends or family if they had any issues?

Overall, I’d recommend the programme, especially if you’re interested in journalling and have no idea where to start. I found it to be an easy way to express myself and get my thoughts onto paper, especially after a long day.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Action for Happiness also has monthly calendars. I am currently doing October Optimism!

You can download a PDF copy here.

They also have a section on their website called 10 Keys to Happier Living, which is worth going through.

In today’s climate, where we are exposed to so much negativity, I can’t help but feel grateful that there’s a nice resource like Action for Happiness!
