What is a dream job anyway?

Bloganuary writing prompt
What’s your dream job?

The short answer: a screenwriter/novelist.

The long answer: My novel eludes me (writing is hard!) and like many people, I’m working a job that pays my bills but doesn’t necessarily let me flex my creative muscles. I do get to write on this blog at least, and I am always working on something, but getting paid for it (and maybe a three-picture movie deal?) would be nice!

What is a dream job anyway? Is it a job where you are valued and rewarded handsomely? Or a job that matches your skillset and keeps you mentally engaged. It must vary for everyone. This question got me thinking more about job satisfaction. Work is still work at the end of the day. I don’t think ‘dream’ jobs exist, but rather jobs where one feels accomplished by the end of the day and positions that leave people feeling hopeless. And those jobs that fall somewhere in the middle.

According to this Statista graph, the happiest workers in the UK in 2023 were those working in the Science and Pharmaceutical industry.

…and the unhappiest were Customer Service Representatives closely followed by retail workers (who can blame them!).
