My Journey Into the World of Coding – 02.

My post on what resources I’m using is still in the works, but I felt listless and thought it would be a good idea to document it. When it comes to coding, I continually realize and remember that it requires patience. It’s easy to feel frustrated or like I am not getting anywhere. At the moment, my day job is a solid motivating factor – but finding the time and energy can be difficult.

I am either rushing through tasks at breakneck speed or trickling along slowly like the last person to finish a marathon. Instead of continuing to do that, I am looking for ways to stay somewhere in between. I read this article on Coursera called ‘How to Motivate Yourself: 11 Tips for Self Improvement‘ and the points that stick out to me are:

One area where I need to improve is in setting goals. I can be a ‘wing it and hope for the best’ person, but I have found that setting goals and targets gives me that extra motivation I need to finish certain tasks.

On that note, I am going to give myself until the end of the week to finish the project I am working on and finish the current module I am on in an online course. Usually, I would be able to complete them in a day or so, but I recognize that the forces are not with me this week. Instead of pressuring myself and spending hours staring at code, I think it would be better to take a break, regroup, remember my ‘why’…and kick some coding butt by the end of the week.
