The First Lesson
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was working on a Python project and I thought I would create a series tracking my ‘journey’. At the moment, I have been working on it on and off for six months (yay, life!). I am more confident about it now – I can create some basic programs. Still, I have a lot to learn and I’m here to take you with me.
My coding journey began as far back as 2020. It was halfway through the first COVID lockdown and I was planning to learn Python. For reasons I could not tell you, that did not happen – but the desire to learn a programming language did not go away. I am good with computers, I know basic HTML, I can write, I can edit videos with fancy software, I can edit audio (not very well – but it counts!) – all skills that I felt would translate well with programming. It would be awesome to learn the building blocks of the software I use every day.
After doing a lot of research and feeling overwhelmed, I learnt my very first lesson – coding requires a lot of patience. A lot of my sessions have ended with me putting away my laptop in frustration because things weren’t making any sense. I have quit at least three times – but, in the end, I always come back. If I am struggling with a concept, I have learnt to take a break and come back to it with a fresh mind.
Right now. I’m all about the baby steps!
In my next post, I’ll talk about what resources I’ve been using and how I am going about learning Python (along with HTML and CSS).
